General Electric’s Immelt to Head Council on Jobs and Competitiveness

GE’s CEO Jeffrey Immelt is being hailed as a “Green Jobs Genius”, but General Electric is about as green as a Hess Truck:

GE is responsible for toxic Superfund sites, knowingly exposing people to radioactive material, and has been fighting Superfund clean-up laws that hold the company accountable for damage caused by years of careless PCB dumping:

Honeywell International Inc., which was linked to 128 Superfund sites, General Electric Co. (116 sites) and Chevron Corporation (122 sites) are the companies connected to the largest number of Superfund sites. For most of these sites, other companies were also listed as possibly contributing to the pollution.” – From Projects for Public Integrity

GE has also secured BILLIONS of dollars in defense and military contracts, earning itself a place amongst the most notorious war profiteering companies.

GE was even compared to Enron in it’s accounting schemes under Immelt. Feeling confident yet? What if I told you they paid ZERO dollars in taxes again in 2010?

Perhaps the more tragic recognition of reality took place when it became clear to me that the war was doing far more than devastating the hopes of the poor at home. It was sending their sons, and their brothers, and their husbands to fight and die in extraordinarily high proportion relative to the rest of the population. We were taking the black young men who had been crippled by society and sending them eight thousand miles away to guarantee liberties in Southeast Asia which they had not found in Southwest Georgia and East Harlem. So we have been repeatedly faced with a cruel irony of watching Negro and white boys on TV screens as they kill and die together for a nation that has been unable to seat them together in the same school room. So we watch them in brutal solidarity, burning the huts of a poor village. But we realize that they would hardly live on the same block in Chicago or Atlanta. [Now, I could not be silent in the face of such cruel manipulation of the poor.”

Predator Drones continuously bomb innocent women and children in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen, but the mainstream media says almost nothing about it. Unless of course the anger about the bombings starts to rear it’s head in the populace, then we get plenty of RAND corp. backed stats of how wonderful and brilliant the drones are.

The disconnect becomes even more stark when you see the death orgy rise up around the Arizona shootings. The feasting horrorholics in the news will moan for weeks about the inhumanity of it all. Even the President has glomped onto the nine year old victim in his recent speech on the tragedy.

Now, it is absolutely a tragedy that deserves all of our attention, but there is something that twists my stomach up in a knot when I see the President shaken to his core over this little girl’s life, while the lives of the children blown to bits by his Predator Drone bombings seems to not even enter into his sphere of reality. This isn’t the first time the man I elected President has shocked me with his insensitivity. This Predator Drone joke at the White House Press dinner, that sounded just as callous and screwed up as Bush, kind of used up all my shock cards for Obama.

“Jonas Brothers are here, they’re out there somewhere. Sasha and Malia are huge fans, but boys, don’t get any ideas. Two words for you: predator drones. You will never see it coming. You think I’m joking?”

Government Agents Infiltrating Activist Groups US/UK

US – DemocracyNow.org – There are major new developments in the case of the peace activists targeted by FBI raids last September. Lawyers for the activists in Minnesota and St. Paul have learned a government agent infiltrated their group and conducted extensive spying.

Going… by the name “Karen Sullivan,” the agent began attending organizing meetings of the Twin Cities Anti-War Committee in the lead-up to the Republican National Convention. Sullivan then took an active role in the group, chairing meetings, handling bookkeeping, and communicating with dozens of other organizations. Anti-War Committee activist Jess Sundin spoke to Democracy Now! on Wednesday.

        Jess Sundin:

“Karen came to weekly meetings. We’re all volunteers, and so we make decisions together at those meetings, and she participated in those discussions, sometimes even chairing the meetings. Karen had a key to our office, a key which she later used—or the FBI used—to raid the office on September 24th and let themselves in. And she also at times assisted with our bookkeeping and had full access to our financial records, our membership lists and everything else we’re involved in.”

Sullivan even accompanied two activists when they tried to visit the Occupied Territories in 2009. But upon landing in Israel, Israeli agents were already aware of their trip and refused to grant them entry. The activists’ attorneys have also learned prosecutors are focusing on a small donation the two activists wanted to give to their host …”
