/Dɪˈbeɪt/ [dih-beyt] noun, verb, -bat·ed, -bat·ing.

–noun 1. a discussion, as of a public question in an assembly, involving opposing viewpoints.

This is not a debate. This is a pyramid scheme in favor of the military industrial complex. Since neither party will defund war and aggression in order to better our society there is effectively NO DEBATE.

A Comcastrophe for Netflix

leave a comment »

From FreePress:

The FCC just blessed the merger of Comcast, the nation’s largest cable and Internet provider, with NBC Universal. The Justice Department has just followed suit, leading to the unprecedented consolidation of media and Internet power.

Letting one company control both the pipes and the content that flows over those pipes is a formula for abuse. Comcast-NBC could soon hike up rates, take away your favorite channels or even stop you from watching your favorite shows online. Comcast has already targeted Netflix and other companies that compete with its video and Internet offerings.

There’s no way to sugarcoat it. Wherever you live, the Comcast-NBC merger is a disaster.

Let Washington know there are consequences to blessing this bad deal.

First, sign this pledge to protect your community against future Comcast abuses, and we’ll connect you to a growing network of activists in your area and beyond.

Then, use Twitter, Facebook and e-mail to urge your friends to sign on as well.

Comcast-NBC is just the first domino to fall in what is certain to be a wave of dangerous media mergers where even fewer companies control the content you watch and all the ways you watch it. Sign our pledge now and help us stop future media disasters.”

200 Dead Cows Found In Wisconsin

The Wausau Daily Herald. WSAW News reports that more recent updates have suggested pneumonia as the cause of the mass cow deaths, though such widespread cases of pneumonia are rare. Tests are still underway to determine what is responsible. See WSAW’s full video report here.

Though likely unrelated, many other incidents of mass animal deaths have been reported in the U.S. and around the world in the past month. Thousands of dead birds fell from the sky in Arkansas on New Year’s Eve, following a massive fish kill just 100 miles away days earlier. In the week following, other mass bird deaths were reported in nearby Louisiana and Kentucky. Birds were also reported to fall dead from the sky in Italy and Sweden, and more recently similar incidents have been reported in California and Alabama.

Mass fish kills have also been reported in Chicago, Maryland, Brazil and New Zealand, along with 40,000 dead crabs that washed ashore on England beaches.

Many explanations have been offered for the various mass animal deaths, with everything from fireworks, semi-truck collisions, overeating and cold weather blamed for the birds’ deaths. Cold weather has also been pinned to likely be the cause of many of the fish and crab deaths, as well. According to The AP, mass animal deaths are not all that uncommon.”

Rethink Mass Murder

Predator Drones continuously bomb innocent women and children in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen, but the mainstream media says almost nothing about it. Unless of course the anger about the bombings starts to rear it’s head in the populace, then we get plenty of RAND corp. backed stats of how wonderful and brilliant the drones are.

The disconnect becomes even more stark when you see the death orgy rise up around the Arizona shootings. The feasting horrorholics in the news will moan for weeks about the inhumanity of it all. Even the President has glomped onto the nine year old victim in his recent speech on the tragedy.

Now, it is absolutely a tragedy that deserves all of our attention, but there is something that twists my stomach up in a knot when I see the President shaken to his core over this little girl’s life, while the lives of the children blown to bits by his Predator Drone bombings seems to not even enter into his sphere of reality. This isn’t the first time the man I elected President has shocked me with his insensitivity. This Predator Drone joke at the White House Press dinner, that sounded just as callous and screwed up as Bush, kind of used up all my shock cards for Obama.

“Jonas Brothers are here, they’re out there somewhere. Sasha and Malia are huge fans, but boys, don’t get any ideas. Two words for you: predator drones. You will never see it coming. You think I’m joking?”

– President Obama
